“Pyrgos Ralli”, the 19th century landmark of Aegina, lends its name to the the Estate. Majestically positioned amidst a breathtaking bay, overlooking the sea, it offers panoramic views of Aegina’s stunning sunsets and the ancient ruins of the Temple of Apollo, known as “Kolona”. Constructed around 1890 by Telemachos Rallis, the great grand-uncle of the current owner, the chateau reflects the trend of its era, attracting prominent Athenians to the island to create grand holiday residences.
Enduring numerous challenges, including seizure during World War II and periods of exile, “Pyrgos Ralli” has retained its grandeur and historical significance. Influenced by the neo-gothic architectural style prevalent in England, legend has it that Rallis was inspired by a picture from his travels. Constructed over several years using local Aegina stone, known as “pouri”, the chateau boasts intricate frescoes decorating its walls, ceilings, and floors, drawing from ancient Greek and Roman motifs, with rich hues of deep red prevailing.
Nestled within a lush garden teeming with olive, lemon, and fig trees, alongside vibrant flowers, “Pyrgos Ralli” has served as a cherished holiday retreat for five generations of the Ralli family. Today, this esteemed estate welcomes guests at its guesthouse and offers its enchanting surroundings as a venue for weddings and other special events, holding official recognition as a “Historical Monument and Work of Art” bestowed by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
